This movie, is a good example of how the government can and will ignore people’s rights to reach it’s own ends.

Even if we don’t agree with someones actions, even if we think they are guilty; no one’s rights should ever be violated.  This movie details a kangaroo court that seems to be more about revenge than justice.

Just Stuff that interests me

I’m a bit of a history buff so this movie was on my to watch list.  Okay yes Norman Reedus is in it too.  Yesterday I noticed that it was on Netflix so I got my chance to watch it.

It is based on a historical incident, the trial of the Lincoln assassination conspirators, and it looks like it stayed pretty close to what actually happened.  The plot actually focuses on Mary Surratt, the first woman hanged by the Federal Government.  The Actual conspiracy is more in the background.

If you know your history, Mary Surratt owned a boarding house in which the Lincoln assassination was hatched by by John Wilkes Booth and his co-conspirators, including Mary’s son John.  Mary along with several others who may or may not have been guilty and one that was definitely guilty; was arrested, tried and convicted by a military tribunal.   Three other conspirators…

This is the norm that most of us have been raised with. We understand that Attorneys are not cheap. Luckily there is a solution called LegalShield. Take a look at this post to see how we can use attorneys for everyday issues. We just don’t because we know the issue is no where close to what we would pay to have an attorney handle it.

I hate to break the bad news to y’all, but the American legal system does not work in our favor……at least not for the majority us…….

First of all, if the case you need representation for is not easy to win….you can forget about finding a lawyer who will agree to get paid on contingency.

And nowadays, because lying and the skewing of facts are so prevalent in our society (and what attorneys are trained to do), laws have become so technical and complicated that 1) You cannot defend your own case, an attorney must…

It’s amazing how easily we get distracted from what is important. While amusement is necessary, when it eclipses everything else we need to stop and focus.  Really? J-lo’s neckine is front page news?? I can think of a lot of things more important than that to be on the front page.

How about the families who are being foreclosed on?  That is an issue that needs attention.  Families who are living on the edge of financial ruin?  That is an issue that needs attention.  People who are being downsized out of jobs? Yes that needs attention.

LegalShield helps people whether it is helping them handle foreclosures, severance packages or just a way to make a little extra money.

The Oscars aired on Sunday night…..It is now Tuesday and the NYC Daily News is STILL talking about red carpet fashion does and don’ts……..ON THE FRONT PAGE!

I realize that the Daily News is just trying to sell their newspaper……and this is what sells……but, doesn’t anyone realize that there may be more important things to talk about in the world?

Does it not seem logical that by focusing all of our attention, money and intellectual devotion to fashion, we are allowing everything else around us to crumble to pieces…….because we don’t care enough about it to even think about it?

I was watching the red carpet just for the humor of watching grown people discuss whether or not this ruffle or that neckline was worthy of admiration.

I also enjoyed watching the celebrities stop and turn from side to side to make sure the photographer get their best…

While this child’s health is a concern, what other excuses will now be used to grant CPS the authority to remove children from their homes? Who will protect the rights of parents to raise their children?

8 Year Old Put into Foster Care for Being Overweight

What a touchy situation.  I get it.  We have to take care of our children which includes making sure that the environment does not pose health risks.

My question is this. How is a parent supposed to unbiasedly decide which health risk is worse, being overweight – or – living with low self-esteem your entire life?

Cruise ship survivors and families of deceased passengers are being told that they have limited rights when it comes to suing Carnival (parent company of the cruise ship) for damages….

Harsh Reality for Cruise Ship Survivors

This should be a lesson to all of us that we should be careful what we sign.  I know someone personally who owns a bed bug extermination company (bed bugs are a big problem in NYC) and makes his customers sign a disclaimer that is ridiculous.

The disclaimer basically says that they are not responsible for gross negligence of any sort and if the customer  chooses to sue them, they are responsible to pay THE COMPANY’S  legal fees!!!

Every single customer signs this disclaimer without reading it.

The owner of the company is a smooth talker and is a great salesman.  If he comes to your house, I…

Christmas wishes

Just taking a moment to say thank to those who follow and have comments on  this blog.  I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.  May you be surrounded by the love of family and friends, not just today but throughout the coming year!

Be prepared Mom and Dad!

Time to draw on my law enforcement experience again.  This post is directed towards parents (and Grandparants etc).  Do you have a missing child kit?  All parents should have one tucked away and it’s not a bad idea for you to give one to any other relative that your child visits regularly.

A missing child kit will reduce your stress if your child ever goes missing.  You will already have everything you need together in one place to take with you to the police department if you need to file a missing child alert.  At the very least your missing child kit should include:

  • A copy of your child’s birth certificate
  • For infants you should have a footprint card, for older children a fingerprint card
  • List of friends with their phone numbers
  • A recent photo-less than 6 months old
  • Physical Description of your child like Scars, Birthmarks  etc
  • Any additional personal information you think important including medical conditions.

Remember to keep the information updated!  The more detailed information you have, the better!

All of this information will be used by the police to place a missing child alert.  Missing children are placed in a nationwide computer system along with any additional information you can give them.   This alert is usually known as an Amber Alert.  The sooner the Amber Alert is placed in the system the sooner law enforcement agencies will be notified to look for your child.

If you don’t have a fingerprint card on your child, call your local police department.  In most cases they will gladly fingerprint your child.

Lets all have a safe and happy Halloween!

Yes it is just about that time again. Little ghosts and goblins will take to the streets en masse chanting that dire threat:

“Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat.  If you don’t, I don’t care, I’ll pull down your underwear!”

I just thought I would include the complete rhyme for the benefit of those who have never heard it.  Anyway we will all be coerced into giving up the goodies once again this year.  While most people are truly happy to pay this innocent ransom, some may use this as an opportunity to do harm.  Also it’s important that the little goblins stay safe while they are out demanding their just payment for not subjecting us to the embarrassment of a bare bottom!

So I’m reminding you of some tips and suggestions to put into place to protect your little ghouls this year:

1. Take care in planning costumes for the kids. Robes, sheets and capes should not be too long it’s easy for them to trip while running along.  Also remember that masks limit vision, scary make up is much safer than a mask.

2. Make sure each child has a light source.  Since most trick or treating hours are timed to be after sunset, invest in penlights or better yet glow sticks for the little monsters to carry with them.  Many costumes are dark colored, a group of glow sticks can let drivers know to use caution.

3. Go out in groups with adult supervision.  It is much safer to have an adult accompany a group of small children.  An adult can keep the group together.  Also someone with evil thoughts on the brain are much less likely to approach a group headed by an adult than they would be to approach a group accompanied by an adolescent.

4. Keep an eye out for strangers in your neighborhood. Whether you are out accompanying the kids or at home handing out candy keep an eye out. Remember Halloween brings out all sorts of pranksters and mischief makers.

5. Stick to your neighborhood. By staying in a familiar area you more than likely know the folks giving up the treats.  You are less likely to to get ‘suspect’ offerings.

6. Do not allow the kiddies to eat any candy until you have inspected it. Any candy that looks as if it has been tampered with, the packaging is damaged or in any other way doesn’t look right, toss it.  Also toss homemade goodies and fruit unless you know the person who gave it very well.

Remember that the holiday should be enjoyable for everyone but we should always keep safety in the front of our minds.  Have a spooky good time!
