How Absolutely stupid do scammers think we are?

My sister forwarded the following email to me last night.

FW: Attn: This is to inform

you that we the fbi have a

warrant to arrest you if we

dont hear from you

immediately,this is the final

warning you are going to

receive from the fbi office do

you get me? I hope youre

understand how many times

this message has been sent to

you. We have warned you so

many times and you have

decided to ignore our e-mails

we have been instructed to get

you arrested immediately,

and today if you fail to

respond back to us with the

payment then, we will close

your bank account and jail

you and all your properties

will be confiscated by the

fbi.Robert Mueller, III FB I

We both laughed at this one.  What you see above was the subject line and there was nothing in the body of the e-mail.  Spelling and grammar errors aside, FBI is always in capital letters.  If you get this in your e-mail, just ignore it.  It is a blatant attempt at fraud.

I'm a bit of a history buff so this movie was on my to watch list.  Okay yes Norman Reedus is in it too.  Yesterday I noticed that it was on Netflix so I got my chance to watch it.

It is based on a historical incident, the trial of the Lincoln assassination conspirators, and it looks like it stayed pretty close to what actually happened.

This movie, is a good example of how the government can and will ignore people's rights to reach it's own ends. Even if we don't agree with someones actions, even if we think they are guilty; no one's rights should ever be violated.  This movie details a kangaroo court that seems to be more about revenge than justice.

Global Payment Inc-Update

Global Payment has officially confirmed the breach of information although they are saying that it is contained and that no names or Social security number were lost.  The estimate is that 1.5 million cardholders were affected.  They have also confirmed that VISA has dropped them from their registry of provider that meet security standards.

Please do not misunderstand what it means by VISA ‘dropped’ them.  Global is indeed still processing payments for VISA.  Global expects to be reinstated.  What this means is that if you have a VISA card you can still be affected by this security breach.

It is also possible that this information is being used right now.  You need to be alert and be aware.  Steps that you can take:

• Just because names and SSNs were not lost does not mean that anyone is safe.  Thieves can still access information about you online.  Update your passwords to your accounts.
• Make sure that your browser, antispyware, and antivirus protection is up to date.
• Do not overlook a missing credit card statement, it could be an indication that your account has been stolen and the thief turned in a change of address, redirecting that statement to them.
• Check your credit card statement closely for fraudulent charges no matter how small.  Thieves often test cards by submitting charges for as little as five cents.
• Put identity theft protection in place now before you become a victim.

Identity Theft Shield will not only help you with getting the credit side fixed by working on your behalf with creditors, investigators will look for non-financial issues and help fix those too.

 

 

Global Payments Inc suffers dataloss and merchants could be on the hook!

Once again a payment processor suffers a dataloss. Sadly merchants could be bearing the financial burden on this even though they are not the ones who lost the information. That’s bad for the merchants.

It’s also bad for the consumers whose information was lost. While consumers may not have to shoulder the financial burden, Personally Identifying Information has been exposed. The exposure of your personal information puts you at risk of becoming an identity theft victim, and the financial burden is not the only problem you have to worry about. You are more than your credit score!

Global Payments Inc has scheduled a press conference for Monday morning, look for a more in depth update then.

What a sad situation for mother and child

We often assume that people’s rights are a given fact.  We think that our rights are protected at all times but this is not the case as this  Dan Rather report shows.  All to often our rights depend on whether or not we can afford to enforce them.

In this report I noticed that in many of the cases it came down to resources, the unwed mothers did not have them available.  Sadly this is happening on a global scale, including here in North America.  The parental rights of mothers are being ignored through forced adoptions.

Gay rights would not be an issue if they truly existed

Gay rights is a term that we keep hearing about and there is a reason that we keep hearing it, they don’t really exist.  If gay rights truly existed, there would be no reason for it to keep popping up in the news.  The LGBT community would be treated the same as the heterosexual one.

I am a straight woman but I am all for gay rights.  Gay rights has nothing to do with my sexual orientation or anyone else’, it has to do with people all being treated fairly.  As a Black woman, I feel that I have the responsibility to stand side by side with members of the LGBT community in this fight.  This fight is not just about gay rights but the rights of every conceivable ‘group’ that can be labeled as different.

If you are willing to stand by and allow anyone to use the law to  discriminate against, oppress, dehumanize and objectify any group because they are ‘different’, then you need to understand that the same thing can be done to you no matter who you are.   Maybe your turn will come because of an illness, where you live, or even the fact that you wear glasses, what we allow to be done to one can be done to all.

It's amazing how easily we get distracted from what is important. While amusement is necessary, when it eclipses everything else we need to stop and focus.  Really? J-lo's neckine is front page news?? I can think of a lot of things more important than that to be on the front page. How about the families who are being foreclosed on?  That is an issue that needs attention.  Families who are living on the edge of financial ruin?  That is an issue that needs attention.  People who are being downsized out of jobs?
